The Roma People

The Roma and Sinti peoples are some of the most oppressed, discriminated against and despised peoples on earth. Be the Change and educate yourself about their culture and their quest for peace and justice. Be the Change and speak out when you witness bigotry and hatred. “Dirty, thieving Gypsies” is an angry, hate-filled prejudice held by millions of people.

In Southern California:

A small film opened this past weekend here in the Southland that we thought
might be of interest to Barclay patrons.

Gypsy Caravan is a documentary that has been getting a lot of really great buzz
from the major film critics and is being hailed as the next Buena Vista Social
club. The film follows five varied gypsy troupes that toured and performed
together throughout the U.S.

This is the same Gypsy Caravan tour that came to the Barclay several years ago.
It was the first time that flamenco artist Antonio El Pipa performed in southern
California. El Pipa has since become a favorite of the Barclay’s New World
Flamenco Festival, appearing as a guest artist in 2003, and in 2005 the Festival
featured his entire company in a trio of sold out performances.
