Ben & Jerry’s Recognizes Aaron Voldman, Executive Director of Student Peace Alliance, as a Peace Pioneer

Aaron Voldman, Executive Director of the Student Peace Alliance (SPA) and a member of the Board of Directors of The Peace Alliance, was one of two nationwide winners of Ben & Jerry’s “Peace Pioneer” contest. The announcement was made on May 27, 2008 at its New York City Times Square Scoop Shop. The ceremony was part of Ben & Jerry’s joint effort with The Lennon Estate and Peace One Day, a non-profit organization focused on raising global awareness of the UN day of global ceasefire and non-violence on September 21st annually.

Maggie Gyllenhaal, award-winning actress and demonstrated peace activist, Jeremy Gilley, founder of Peace One Day and director/producer/writer of the Cannes-debuted film, “The Day After Peace,” and Roy Kerwood, original photographer from Lennon’s 1969 Montreal Bed-in, were on-site at the Ben & Jerry’s Times Square Scoop Shop to launch a John Lennon tribute flavor, “Imagine Whirled Peace,” and announce a new social mission partnership with Peace One Day.

Peace One Day

Dear Friend,

I hope this finds you well.

With only a few weeks to go until Peace Day 2008, I wanted to take this opportunity to update you and ask for your commitment to the day. If you haven’t done so already, please visit the website before September 21 and log your commitment along with thousands of other Peacemakers all over the world!

To update you, on September 21 Peace One Day will again hold a gala event at the Royal Albert Hall in London. There will be performances from Annie Lennox, Bryan Adams and John Legend as well as contributions from Jude Law, Amelia Fox, Martin Bell OBE and David Bentley with other special guests still to be announced. Click here to get your tickets!

The celebration will also include a gala screening of my new documentary The Day After Peace. The film charts the ten-year journey of Peace One Day culminating in the practical manifestation of life-saving activity across Afghanistan on and around Peace Day 2007. You can watch a trailer of the film on our website and even purchase your own copy of the feature length DVD to share with friends and family – all proceeds from the film keep us going!

Our campaign to see football matches played in every Member State of the UN is going from strength to strength and so far we have football commitments from 156 countries. In addition to football, we hope to screen The Day After Peace in every country in the world. We have confirmed screenings taking place at international film festivals in four out of five continents and are well on our way to securing the fifth!

Have a look at our new campaign ‘My Take On Peace’ where you can upload a video documenting your very own take on peace. Watch videos from Lenny Kravitz, Alanis Morissette, Estelle and many others to find out their take on peace and then submit your own!

We look forward to receiving your commitments and thank you for your continued support. Help us make Peace Day 2008 our best yet!

Best wishes,

In peace

Jeremy Gilley
