Ben and Jerry’s Bed-In for Peace

Ben & Jerry’s Recognizes Aaron Voldman, Executive Director of Student Peace Alliance, as a Peace Pioneer

Aaron Voldman, Executive Director of the Student Peace Alliance (SPA) and a member of the Board of Directors of The Peace Alliance, was one of two nationwide winners of Ben & Jerry’s “Peace Pioneer” contest. The announcement was made on May 27, 2008 at its New York City Times Square Scoop Shop. The ceremony was part of Ben & Jerry’s joint effort with The Lennon Estate and Peace One Day, a non-profit organization focused on raising global awareness of the UN day of global ceasefire and non-violence on September 21st annually.

Maggie Gyllenhaal, award-winning actress and demonstrated peace activist, Jeremy Gilley, founder of Peace One Day and director/producer/writer of the Cannes-debuted film, “The Day After Peace,” and Roy Kerwood, original photographer from Lennon’s 1969 Montreal Bed-in, were on-site at the Ben & Jerry’s Times Square Scoop Shop to launch a John Lennon tribute flavor, “Imagine Whirled Peace,” and announce a new social mission partnership with Peace One Day.

The Seward Phoenix LOG – Woman wages campaign for peace

When Seward banker Lori Draper sat down to surf the Web two years ago, she had no idea that the next Web site she visited would change her life.

That’s what happened, though, when she inadvertently found herself on the Peace Alliance site. The organization, which promotes peace-building through personal, national and global interests, works toward the establishing of a U.S. Department of Peace.

Congress should create a Department of Peace – Kansas City Star

n words and in deeds, people in this country struggle with peace.

The issue surfaced when peace studies students at Avila University asked me for a definition of that often used but frequently diminished word. My frustration is people define peace by what it isn’t.

That concept is just too narrow to capture the full range of the value and application of peace.

Peace has to be more than the absence of war, fighting, strife and violence.

via Congress should create a Department of Peace – Kansas City Star.

Please Vote for Department of Peace – by IdeaScale

A Department of Peace, funded by a percent tax on all war contracts, will serve to organize, educate and facilitate peaceful responses to the causes of war, including famine, poverty, and ignorance. The Department of Peace with be a resource for non-profits, non-governmental and governmental organizations to aid and collaborate on alternative to war. The institution will work in conjunction with the goals of the United Nations and be a vessel of action and education on both global and local scales.

Why Is This Idea Important?

The Department of Peace will be an active, engaged institution to increase peaceful means of conflict resolution.

Contact Congress Today!

Please join our Mother’s Day action campaign by contacting your members of Congress TODAY. Youth from across the D.C. area will be descending upon Capitol Hill today urgeing support for the Youth PROMISE Act.  This bill will provide unprecedented aid to young people who are at-risk of becoming involved, or who are already involved in, gangs or the criminal justice system to redirect them toward productive alternatives.  Additionally, congressional offices across the country are being visited tomorrow, Friday, May 8th, by Peace Alliance activists, reminding them that Peace Wants a Piece of the Pie — that is the federal budget.  Specifically, we are asking Congress to support the Youth PROMISE Act and as always, the Dept. of Peace legislation. (It’s not too late to visit your own local office, even if just for a drop-by.)

Your action in support of these bills will only take a few minutes, but will significantly increase the impact of our visiting teams!
